Biography of Champeon

Caribbean vocalist, songwriter and performer Champeon began his love affair with music as child growing up in the eastern portion of Trinidad and Tobago.

As a child, the multi-dimensional artiste whose birth name is Ronnel Ramirez was influenced by a virtual buffet of music by Caribbean & international artistes across various genres such as Soca, Rapso, Reggae, Hip Hop and R&B whose works were regularly played in his family home and on the local airwaves.

In this formative stage of his musical path, he developed his craft for writing a variety of musical styles. However, during his high school years, he developed a talent and passion for onstage performance and would actively participate in school and community competitions with his group Absentee Crew (which comprised himself and fellow classmates from his alma mater, San Juan Secondary School).

Champeon’s musical journey has taken him from Trinidad to the United States (where he currently resides) and has given him the opportunity to share stages and studios with top international and regional acts the likes of Reggae Icons Beenie Man and Everton Blender and Soca Stars Alison Hinds, Lyrikal, Tallpree, Adam O and Pumpa.

Now based in South Carolina, Champeon boasts a diverse catalog of releases spanning over 12 years which includes songs such as ‘Blessed’, ‘Slow Wine (For Your Lover)’, ‘Jam Remix’, ‘Girls’, ‘Woman’s Anthem’ and ‘J’ouvert Powers’ and he plans to continue his musical expansion with several strategic global collaborations.

As an adaptable entertainer, Champeon has experimented with various approaches to musical composition, delivery and production. This has driven him to tackle different topics in his productions as well as to crossover into various genres which include Rock, Trap, Dancehall and Afrobeats, all the while keeping his music fun, positive, inspirational, always engaging and fully injected with authentic ‘Trini Flavour’.

As a native Trinbagonian, the versatile and enlightened artiste has consistently maintained an entertainment presence on the international Carnival circuit and at major North American Caribbean festivals which include The Charleston Carifest, The Charlotte Caribbean Festival, Atlanta’s Caribbean Carnival and several events in Florida.

With new projects on the horizon for this modern day Musical Renaissance Man the possibilities are limitless as to where his journey may lead him.
